What to do after wisdom tooth extraction:
- After the impacted tooth surgery is completed, the dentist will put gauze dressing to where the tooth was removed to stop the bleeding. Patients must bite it for about 2 hours. Do not spit the blood because it might dislodge stitches or the blood clot formed over the wound
- In the meantime, if the gauze is soaked with blood, you can change it, but not too often because it can interfere with the blood clotting process.
- Use cold compress on the cheek during the first 24 hours to help reduce swelling that may occur, but don’t put ice in the mouth.
- After 24 hours can be heated to help reduce swelling
- Should take the medicine strictly according to the dentist’s instructions.
- Strictly follow the dentist’s instructions.
- If the blood hasn’t stopped flowing or increased bleeding, you should see the dentist immediately
- Refrain from exercising in the initial period after the surgery
- You should see your dentist if there is still pain after 2-3 days.
- In the initial period after surgery, do not drink using straw, because suction can cause bleeding. Drink water by sipping directly from the glass, and choose to eat soft food that does not require much chewing and should sip water often to prevent mouth from drying.
- Do not chew food directly on the area of the surgery. Also, do not brush teeth in that area.
- You can brush teeth and use mouthwash, but should be cautious and gentle. You can also rinse mouth with warm salt water at least 5-6 times a day, using 1 cup of warm water mixed with 1 teaspoon of salt, to help the wound heal faster.
– If other abnormalities are found, consult the dentist immediately. And strictly follow the dentist’s instructions
